Meet Our Team:
Charlotte Eberlein
received her B.S. from Washington State University, her M.S. from Oregon State University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Eberlein served as Extension Weed Specialist for North Dakota State University before joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota. In her
research/teaching position at the University of Minnesota, she conducted research on weed management systems for corn and small grains and taught graduate
courses in weed biology and herbicide mode of action. In 1989, she moved to a research/extension position with the University of Idaho with responsibilities
in integrated weed management systems for potatoes and the molecular genetics and physiology of herbicide resistant weeds. She was appointed District III
Director for Cooperative Extension in 1998. She served as Interim Extension Director for 1 1/2 years before being named Extension Director in 2003.
She is committed to helping CALS and UI Extension serve diverse audiences throughout the state.
Harriet Shaklee
is the
Extension Family Development Specialist at the University of Idaho. She received
her PhD in child development psychology at the University of Oregon and has 30
years experience doing teaching, research, and outreach on issues relevant to
children and families. Special interests include rural families, transition to
adulthood, early childhood, parent education, work and family, and family
history.
Larry Van
Tassell
is Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics and
Rural Sociology. He has a B.S. and M.S. from Brigham Young University and a
PhD from Texas A&M University. Prior to coming to the University of Idaho
in 1999 he was a professor at the University of Wyoming. He has also served
on the faculty at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His research and
teaching interests have been in the production and management areas.
Brian P. Luckey
is an Extension Educator in 4-H Youth Development in Canyon County in Southwest Idaho. He has a Master’s degree in Human Development and
Family Studies from Oregon State University and has been working in the field of youth development for 11 years. He currently works with UI Extension’s
Civil Society Topic Team, where he is a facilitator of the cross-cultural communication game BaFá BaFá. Brian is the writer/editor of an upcoming national
4-H curriculum entitled ¡Qué Rico!. The curriculum teaches youth about Latino culture through the arts, and is presented in a Spanish/English bilingual format.
Dr. Mireille
Chahine is the extension dairy specialist in the Department of Animal and
Veterinary Sciences at the University of Idaho. She is located at the Twin
Falls Research and Extension Center. She received her B.S. from the Lebanese
University in Lebanon, a post-graduate degree from the International Agronomic
Institute of Saragossa in Spain, her M.S. at the University of Barcelona in
Spain, and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Her research and
teaching interests have been in the management area of dairy cows and training
of Hispanic employees.
Charity Buchert serves the College of
Agricultural and Life Sciences as the Personnel/Diversity Coordinator
and Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Counselor. Charity is a graduate from
the University of Idaho in Business Administration. The scope of Charity’s
human resource experience spans over eight years in several functions ranging
from staffing, benefits, human resource information systems, compensation,
classification and training. Charity strives to work through the College to
promote the University as an employer of choice.
Jeannie
Romans serves the College of
Agricultural and Life Sciences as the Assistant to the Dean. Jeannie
began her employment with the University of Idaho in the College of
Agricultural and Life Sciences in the Dean’s office, in 1999. She came
to the University of Idaho from the private sector with over 15 years of
experience and training. Jeannie supports and promotes the mission
of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the CAS project
through participation on the CAS team.
Kim
Nelson
serves as the Student Recruitment Coordinator for the College of Agricultural &
Life Sciences (CALS). After earning a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture Education
from
Washington
State
University, Kim taught Agriculture
Science & Technology in
Colton,
WA for two years. With her
experience teaching high school students, a strong agriculture and leadership
background, she organizes programs for high school student to experience college
life. Besides meeting with prospective students on a regular basis, Kim also
advises the CALS Ambassador Program. Special interests include promoting higher
education, developing leadership skills, and Professional & Technical Education.

Hans Kok
is a
native of the Netherlands, Dr. Kok received a Bachelors and Masters in Science
from the Agricultural University in The Netherlands, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural
Engineering from the University of Idaho. Prior to his current Extension role,
he worked as conservation tillage specialist for Monsanto for 7 years. He taught
Soil Management at Kansas State University and worked for the Kansas State
Cooperative Extension Service for 8 years. He has worked on erosion protection
projects in Spain and Israel, and worked for the USDA-ARS in Washington State.
Becker
Geutch holds a degree from the University of Idaho, the UI Certificate in Diversity and Stratification and serves on the
University Advisory Board for the Diversity and Stratification Certificate program.
Becker completed the UI Mediation Certificate in 2004
and is working toward the Idaho Advanced Mediation Certification. Becker has been with the University of Idaho for 15 years and her specialties include public relations, writing, design, layout and
editing for university, college and departmental publications, displays, web page design & maintenance, recruitment and retention for
the department through the Cooperative Extension System, Colleges of Agricultural and Life Sciences and Engineering.
