SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM INTERN

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Assists with planning, coordinating, and/or conducting developmental
activities/programs for one or more groups of children 5 –12 years of age and
overseeing the health and safety of staff and youth in the program
- Assists with planning programs according to age groups which provide
learning environments individual to each age group that stimulate and enrich
their physical, emotional, cognitive an social development
- Assist in coordinating and organizing all details of activities to
included staff, parent and/or volunteer participation, supplies, facilities,
and equipment
- Assist in ensuring well-balanced nutritious meals are prepared and served.
When prescribed by appropriate medical authority, assist in providing
special diets to youth who require such diets
- Assists with reviewing and updating parent handbooks to ensure parents are
given current information about the program
Assist with administrative procedures and management in the following areas:
- Front desk operation
- Food Service
- Resource management - people, money and materials
- Staff scheduling
- Budget
- Supply and equipment ordering and inventory
Assist with public relations in the following areas:
- Advertising and marketing
- Parent participation
Assist with National School Age Care Alliance (NSACA) Accreditation
- Opportunity available when the school age program is in the process of
becoming accredited or re-accredited
QUALIFICATIONS
- Sophomore, junior, senior, graduate students
- University forms and pre-requisites
- Air Force base forms
- Two references - Faculty recommendation and one other
- Security clearance, FBI fingerprint check (completed by base)
EXPECTATIONS
- Journaling
- Project - developed with University if required
- Evaluation of close out experience
- Exit interview - key questions asked
ELIGIBLE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS
LENGTH OF TIME: CONTACT HOURS
- Total time - negotiable based on student need (ranges: 1 day per week to
full semester)
- Hours per week - negotiable based on student need (range: 2 hours to 360
hours)
