FAMILY CHILD CARE PROGRAM INTERN

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Assist with the planning, organizing, developing, implementing and monitoring
a program of family child care to reduce the risk to children in family child
care homes. The program is designed to protect both the health and safety of
children and through the enforcement of Air Force policies and regulations. The
responsibilities may include a selection of the following:
- Assist with appropriate training for family child care providers and
substitutes including but not limited to, child growth and development,
child abuse and prevention, identification and reporting, child nutrition
and guidance which may be in conjunction with other agencies (public health,
mental health, safety, fire protection, etc.)
- Assists with ensuring that the curriculum is developmentally appropriate
and enhances the individual and special needs of the children
- Assist in evaluating the licensing criteria and documenting findings to
insure health and safety of children in the home
- Assists with coordinating and organizing all details of activities to
included staff, parent and/or volunteer participation, supplies, facilities,
and equipment
- Assist in maintaining resource library for staff and parental use, to
ensure current and relevant materials are provided appropriate for child
care, nutrition, and child development.
- Assist in helping parents locate adequate child care for full-time,
hourly, children with special needs, etc.
- Assist in marketing benefits and services of the family child care program
Assist with administrative procedures and management
- Licensing procedures and requirements
- Resource and Referral
- Resource management - people, money and materials
- Budget
- Supply and equipment ordering and inventory
Assist with public relations
- Advertising and marketing
- Parent participation
Assist with National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC) Accreditation
- Opportunity available if one or more local family child care providers are
in the process of working toward accreditation
QUALIFICATIONS
- Sophomore, junior, senior, graduate students
- University forms and pre-requisites
- Air Force base forms
- Two references - Faculty recommendation and one other
- Security clearance, FBI fingerprint check (completed by base)
EXPECTATIONS
- Journaling
- Project - developed with University if required
- Evaluation of close out experience
- Exit interview - key questions asked

- Total time - negotiable based on student need (ranges: 1 day per week to
full semester)
