Overview/Mission: The Philosophy of our Child Development Center is to
help children grow and develop to their maximum potential in a safe,
nurturing, and child- centered learning environment in which caregivers
and parents collaborate in partnership to meet the children’s unique
needs.

148 children 6 months to 5 years
Facility
Description: Dorothy H. Finley Child Development Center opened in the
early 1980s. The facility houses 148
ages 6 months to 5 years.New CDC construction for 300 capacity to start in
Summer/Fall of 2002.
Special
Features: Give Parents A Break twice a month along with Kid’s Night Out
–once a month. An
Enrichment Program runs through the school year.
The Annual Day in the Park Festival is held every April to
Celebrate Month of the Military Child.

Age Care |
Overview/Mission: Promote a cooperative partnership with parents,
school-age children, base schools, staff and community in a safe,
nurturing, challenging environment by providing quality programs that
enhance, physical, cultural and educational development.
Accredited
by the National School Age Care Alliance 2 Jun 2000.
Staff:
A School Age coordinator and an assistant Coordinator, along with
20 staff members work directly with the children.

Two facilities are used to house 144 children ages 5 – 12.
Facility Description: Main
facility houses activity rooms, game room, computer lab, gym, and
playground.
Second facility houses activity rooms.

Youth
Center |

Capacity:
272 active members and approximately 500 youth participating in sports and
other special events that are not members.

Overview/Mission: Provide quality
programs for the youth at DM that enhances emotional, physical, cultural,
and educational development.
Programs:
School-Age Program, Open Recreation programs daily, Congressional Awards,
Aviation Camp, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Sports, TRAIL, YES
program, Community Service, Give Parents a Break, Youth of the Year,
Clubs, Kids” Night Out.
Staff:
Youth Center Director, School-Age Coordinator, School-Age Assistant
Coordinator, Sports Director, Programs Director, Teen Coordinator, and
Desk Clerk; Five part time Recreation Aids.

Description: 7500 sq ft gym, 5100 sq ft main center and 3060 sq ft annex
room, and a full Kitchen. 6 Ball fields with concession stand, Outdoor
Basketball Court, and a Batting Cage.

Overview/Mission:
Family Child Care approves, trains, licenses, and monitors professional child care providers working in their homes.
A family childcare home will provide quality care within a safe
environment.
In addition to attentive supervision,
age appropriate activities must be offered to promote: Children’s
development. Physical, social
emotional and cognitive growth must all be considered.
Learning experiences that offer times of discovery and feeling of
success will help promote children’s positive self esteem

Desert Lightning Community Center
Mission:
Provide a variety of core activities and services that develop
esprit de corps, promote family well being, and enhance mental and
physical fitness. |
Programs:
Community Center houses “Cyber Connection”
computer room with FREE high speed cable internet access; a game
room consisting of pool tables, table tennis, electronic and steel tip
darts, Playstation II game system with FREE use of games, a TV room
consisting of a 55” HDTV complete with surround sound and DVD player,
Dennis’ Book Nook, where you can kick back in recliners and read or swap
a book. Two relaxing outside
patios with surround sound are also available. Stormy’s Café features specialty coffees,
sandwiches, non-alcoholic drinks, and snacks.
The Information Ticket and Travel office is also located in the
Community Center. Programs
include youth and adult instructional classes, tournaments, base wide
events such as Mardi Gras, Congressional Awards Programs, Tops In Blue,
Base wide talent shows, etc.
