high quality, affordable childcare to parents assigned to Elmendorf AFB
with children 6 weeks to 5 years.
Accreditation: Accredited by NAEYC 1996 and reaccredited in 00.
Started using Marazon for Preschool in 1995 and included the entire
program in 1998. Also using
the Creative Curriculum Program.
Staff:
8 Program Technicians, 43 Caregivers, 2 Food Service staff, 3
clerks, 1 Supervisory Program Technician, 1 Director, 1 Assistant Director
and 1 Training and Curriculum Specialist
Capacity 238 children between 6 weeks and 5 years
Facility Description: Facility
opened in 1995 and includes 15 activity/care rooms and a large
multipurpose room, an industrial kitchen and conference/training room.
Includes 3 age appropriate playgrounds.
Special Features: Facility
designed to meet the harsh climate and accommodate children with special
needs.
Programs: Program provides
hourly and fulltime care and “Give Parents a Break” twice monthly. Program also participates in the USDA food program.

Development Center |

Overview/Mission: To provide

School Age Care |

Facility Description:
School Age Program is offered in 2 locations.
The main center is a large facility with plenty of room and plans
for complete renovation. New
playground installed in 2001. The
second facility is located within the Youth Activities Center.
Special Features: Program
provides care before and after school, during school breaks and holidays
plus a Summer Camp Program from June – Aug.
Program participates in the USDA food program.

Youth Center |
Overview/Mission:
To provide youth recreational, instructional, physical and leisure
programs. Programs are developed to enhance the social,
emotional, cognitive, and physical attributes and to offer opportunities
for leadership, friendship and community involvement.
Programs: The Youth Center is
a Boys and Girls Club of America affiliate.
Programs are offered in 5 core areas: character and leadership development; the arts; youth
sports, fitness and recreation; health and life skills; and education and
career development.
Staff: 1 Director, 1 Sports
Director, 1 Teen Center Director, 1 Teen Recreation Aid, 6 Youth Center
Recreation Aids, 1 Clerk and 1 Laborer
Capacity: 1230 ages 6-18 years
Facility Description: Facility
includes a gymnasium, snack bar, computer lab, open recreation lounge and
3 rooms used by the School Age Program.

Special Features: Program
offers a year-round sports program with over 1,000 participants.
Youth Program was selected as a “Project Learn” site offering
extended learning center activities.
Teen Center is co-located with the Community Activities Center and
utilizes the indoor skate park at the Community Activities Center and
outdoor skate park for numerous special events and competitions. |

Family Child Care |
Overview/Mission: To provide
child care options to center based care for the Elmendorf AFB community.
Licensed care is offered in military housing units to children 2
weeks to 12 years old.
Accreditation and date: N/A. Individual
providers can become accredited
Number of Homes: Typically around 50 homes
Capacity:
Family Child Care providers may care for up to 6 children at one
time
Special
Features: Program offers
flexible care options that include 4 daytime, nighttime, weekends,
part-time, hourly and fulltime care.
Special programs include Extended Duty Care, Child Care for
Volunteers and Child Care for Permanent Change of Station.
Program offers a large lending library with a wide variety of
curriculum materials, family style dining items, and furniture such as
highchairs and outside play items.

| Community
Center |
Overview/Mission: To provide
leisure and recreational activities and programs to families, singles and
retirees. |
|
Programs: Programs include
indoor and outdoor activities, competitions, instructional classes, and
special events. Also included
are activities such as Family bingo, pool tournaments, garage sales, craft
bazaars and annual events, such as Tops in Blue are coordinated through
the Community Center

with exercise equipment, game tables, T.V. lounge, cyber café, and
