Child Development Centers

Overview/Mission: We contribute to the readiness and improve productivity for the Air Force community through programs designed to ensure individual effective, physical, social, language, and creative development for children and youth in a well managed and safe environment.

  Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Awaiting re-accreditation decision.

Staff: 62

Capacity: 142 (6 weeks to 3 years)

Facility Description (optional): Infant and toddler center (13 rooms)

Special Features: Ohana (Family) Reading Program, site for GPAB/PNOsurgecare/extended care due to Noble Eagle

Child Development Center West Harbor Child Development Center
Accredited by NAEYC

Capacity: 119 (3-5 year olds)

Full Day Preschool (5 rooms)

Special Features: Keiki Kamp for pre-K children in the summer.

NAEYC Accreditation expiration date: 31 May 03

Part-Day Preschool (4 rooms)

 

 School Age Care

Overview/Mission: It is the philosophy of the Hickam Air Force Base School Age Program to provide a developmentally appropriate program of the highest quality in an environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. Our daily program of activities is designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of children and give them the protection and security they need during the part of the day when they are away from their parents.

Accredited by the Natioanl School Age Care Association, December 1999.

Staff: 20

Capacity: 120 Children Before & After School, ages 5-12 years; 240 during summer.

Facility Description: Large open room, drama room, art room, computer room, full kitchen, and gymnasium.

Special Features: Adjacent to Kidsports Fun & Fitness Center which has two rooms and additional bathrooms, a playground, skate rink, and soccer fields.

Youth Center

Overview/Mission: Our philosophy and mission is to provide programs of the highest quality for families, youth, singles, military, and retirees.

Programs: Include instructional classes, talent shows, carnivals, Boys & Girls Club activities, Drama Club, Keystone & Torch Council, recreational classes and activities, special holiday events, PACAF Fun Run, youth sports programs, etc.

Staff: 28

Capacity: Capacity is determined by facility and number of staff in facility. Numbers could range from 12-240 children , depending on program/activity. Ages of children are 4-18 years of age.

Facility Description (optional): Kidsports Fun & Fitness, Gymnastics Center, Teen Center, Skateboard Hangar, Skating Rink, Community Center, two theaters, youth complex, and six ball fields.

Special Features: We have been very fortunate to enable consolidating programs with Community Center and expanding programs to better enhance the focus and future of the programs provided for the base community.

Family Child Care

Overview/Mission: Family Child Care offers developmental child care in licensed homes on Hickam AFB for children 2 weeks through 12 years.

Number of Homes: 30

Capacity: Each home is either licensed for 4 or 6 children, ranging in ages from 2 weeks through 12 years.

Special Features: Pre-Licensing Briefing, New Provider Orientation, Lending Program, and USDA Food Program.
