Child Development Centers 
Area Buildings 207 and 208, El Segundo

  Mission: The planning and management of the Centers recognizes the need for available, quality child care services for military parents and their dependent children. The Centers provide a convenient, reliable, loving environment for your children. 

Program: There are two Child Development Centers, one in Area B in El Segundo for children aged six weeks to five years, and  one at Fort MacArthur for children aged twelve months to five years

Accredited: National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), 1991

Capacity: There are 142 spaces for children 6 weeks to 5 years old; 101 spaces at Center 1 and 41 at Center 2.

Staff: The Child Development Centers are operated by a director, assistant director, training & curriculum specialist, and 40 other staff members selected and trained to provide quality care.

  

Family Child Care 

Program: Family Home Child Care is available at Fort MacArthur. Services and hours vary with each individual caregiver, and all providers have regular training and inspections.
Capacity: There are 15-providers available serving 91 children, 2 weeks to 10 years of age.  Licensing classes for new providers, or previously licensed providers from other bases, are conducted on a quarterly basis.

USDA Meal Program: Meals and snacks are provided in accordance with the USDA Program under the Child Care Food Program. 

School Age Care  
Fort MacArthur Youth Center, Building 425

Philosophy: The School Age Program provides a structured program for children five through 12 years old. The program is based on the early childhood education philosophy of active learning, emphasizing a dual environment of home and school with a classroom serving as the home base.

Accredited by National School Age Care Alliance (NSACA), March 2000.

Staff: The staff recreational aides are trained in early childhood development, CPR, First Aid, and Curriculum Development for pre-teens and adolescent.

Capacity: 100 children 5-12 years

Hours: 
Before School - 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. 

After School - 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. 

Program Curriculum : The School Age curriculum is varied and incorporates the following: Music, Dance, Art, Crafts, Drama, Cooking, Science, Nature Outdoor Activities, Physical Activities, & Sports


Youth Center

Philosophy: The Los Angeles Air Force Base Youth Center is a recreational program in which youth can develop and acquire life long skills and hobbies through enriching experience that are physically and mentally challenging.  The staff supports children facing daily issues and concerns by guiding children to develop independence, self-discipline, and creative, thoughtful solutions.
Programs: For youth ages 5 to 18 years old. Programs include a School Age Child Care program, Kid's Connection Club, Junior and Senior Clubs, Open Recreational Program Camps, Sports Activities, Instructional Classes and Special Events. The program supports parents by providing supervised,  comprehensive, year-round, affordable activities with hours that align with the military work schedule.

Sports: The Youth Sports program offers year-round sports for youth ages 5-16 years old. Uniforms are provided for sports. Awards are provided at the end of each sport season and are presented at an awards ceremony.

Camps: The Youth Center offers a full-day camp programs. The camp program is open during the winter school break, the spring break and summer vacation.

Camp programs are geared to develop self-esteem and independence while encouraging critical thinking and reasoning. The camps also focus on knowledge expansion, increasing physical skills, and developing healthy practices in regards to safety and nutrition.


The Kid's Connection Club provides a quality club program to capture the interest and participation of youth nine to 12 years old. The youth are encouraged to assist in planning, developing and executing a variety of activities. There is adult supervision and guidance.
The goal of the Kid's Connection Club is to provide a teen-like atmosphere for pre-teens. The curriculum is designed to encourage volunteerism, community involvement, promote health programs and reduce delinquent behaviors.

The club provides educational programs to reinforce concepts learned at school. A homework and tutorial program is available. Recreation Assistants are available at all times to support and assist youth in their club activities. They plan and develop activities to encourage the youth to become positive leaders of the future.

The Kid's Connection Club is open to children of active duty, retired military members and DoD civilians who work on the base. Kid's Club runs from Monday to Friday: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

The Junior Teen program is designed for youth 13-15 years old. The program focuses on the five basic transitions from youth to adult: physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and moral. The goal is to encourage teens to make good personal choices for today and for their future and to lead to positive involvement in school, home and community.
The Junior Teen Club's activities are varied and incorporate the following: Competitive Sports, Aerobics, Table Games, Computer/Homework Center, Cultural Field Trips, Teen Chatter, and Youth Advisory Council Members

The Junior Teen Club is open to teens of active duty, retired military members and DoD civilians who work on the base. The Junior Teen Club is located at Fort MacArthur in the Teen Center, Building 451.

     

The Senior Teen Club strives to make a significant link to adulthood, developing qualities that enable them to become productive citizens and community leaders. The activities encourage teens to understand themselves, their strengths, and skills through self-awareness and to develop career interests.
The Senior Teen Club motivates teens to learn about the process of preparing for the world of work and continue their education; and provides recreational and social activities that encourage positive self-identity and good peer relations.
Program Focus: Teens are involved in planning and execution of all activities. Empowerment and commitment are key to Senior Teen programs. Club members develop an understanding of the importance of planning for the future, seeing the world outside the base, making a connection between commitments made to the club, school, and home and understanding how that relates to future endeavors.
Activities: Teen Council, Volunteer Program, Teen Chatter, Teen Summit, Special Events, Dances, Trips, Seminars, Talent Show, Competitive Sports, and Fashion Shows.
Eligibility: The Senior Teen Club is open to teens of active duty, retired military members and DoD civilians who work on the base, are between the ages of 16 and 18 and are currently enrolled in school.
