GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF
QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST POSITIONS:
The Services Career Program is seeking professionals with bachelors degrees in early childhood education, child development or related degree (must have at least 24 hours of early childhood or child development courses) with four year undergraduate GPA of 3.45 or higher. Candidates must demonstrate business skills, leadership potential, multiple interests, interpersonal skills, and a willingness to accept career mobility, flexibility, team-player ability, and an action-oriented, can-do attitude. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain a security clearance.
Once selected, candidates participate
in a multi-phase training plan. This training
is conducted at one or more of our core training sites in San Antonio TX, and will not
exceed 24 months: Randolph AFB, Lackland AFB, or Kelly AFB.
During the first year of training,
management trainees will have an overview of the entire child development program at the
training installation. Trainees participate
in rotations with the Family Childcare program, Training and Curriculum program, as well
as in all aspects of an Air Force Child Development Center.
The second year will be an apprenticeship phase for the trainees who will
fill a vacant position as an assistant Child Development Center Director, assistant
Training and Curriculum Specialist, or assistant Family Childcare Coordinator. Management trainees have a great degree of control
over the content and direction of their training. Options
are given to provide input on the amount of time spent in a specific area (to be adjusted
based on prior education or experience), to suggest a time schedule for the training, and
to request additional career enhancing training opportunities.
Placement
salary is guaranteed at $35,728 (GS-09 Step 2)
