Ying is the Director of the Urban Landscape Ecology Laboratory.  She is an avid gardener and in her spare time coordinates all research activities in the laboratory.  Ying also coordinates students working with the Urban Forestry Program in the City of Lewiston, Idaho.  Ying received her M.S. degree in Plant Science from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.  She is originally from Northwest China and is fluent in Chinese, Turk, Mongolian, Russian, Tajik, and English.  She is currently studying Spanish to facilitate the programs activities in Latin America.  

Mike Bowman

Mike was the City Forester for Lewiston, Idaho before "retiring" and taking on his role with the University of Idaho.  He coordinates the development, articulation, and distribution of outreach educational materials for the Urban Landscape Ecology Program.  Mike is a member of the Society for Municipal Arboriculture, the American Society for Consulting Arborists, and the Idaho Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Committee.  He worked in technology transfer with the U.S. Forest Service for over 40 years and also served as a smoke jumper in the 1950's and 60's.  Mike's middle name is "adventure".   

Don Pierce

Don is the web master in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and coordinates all the informational aspects of the Urban Landscape Ecology Program.  He directs the web development efforts for all research and teaching programs and manages the non-refereed outputs of the program.  He also coordinates efforts at expanding the impacts of the program to Idaho citizens and the public at large.  Don is interested in developing active use information technology to promote educational utilization by underserved populations (aka creating a platform for self expression and individual achievement with historical representations).   

Chris McDaniel

Chris administers the federal excess property program at the University of Idaho.  He is instrumental in acquiring equipment and materials needed for all our research and teaching needs in the Urban Landscape Ecology Program.  Chris has a B.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Idaho and is our resident expert on wildlife impacts on urban vegetation.
