Welcome to BAE 450 Environmental Hydrology
New Students Start HereThis course is designed for non-engineers in the fields of environmental science, natural resources, geography, soil science, and other related sciences. The overall objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive understanding of hydrologic processes associated with environmental processes and to develop initial conceptual evaluations that are part of most assessments.

The textbook required for this course is: Environmental Hydrology (2nd edition) by Andy D. Ward and Stanley W. Trimble (eds.), 2004, Lewis Publishers, CRC Press. (ISBN: 1-56670-616-5).  This book is available from the UI bookstore.

It is suggested that you have at least one semester of calculus before you start this course.

General Information
Field WorkLESSONS and MODULES

There is a separate page for each lesson. On each lesson page you will find the learning objectives for the lesson, and the modules associated with each lesson.  On each module page, you will find the reading assignment for the lecture, presentations of the lecture material (as narrated Powerpoint and/or PDF), and what to do to complete the module. NOTE: some audio may refer to Ward and Elliot (1995), the 1st edition of the textbook.  Please, ignore these references and use those that are printed.  (If you find errors, let me know.)

PROBLEM SETS
At the end of each lesson, you will be required to do a problem set and hand it in, and/or you may be directed to a discussion item on Blackboard. Problem sets will be due on the date indicated in the problem set at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. The answer keys will be available immediately after the due date and time, so NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS CAN BE ACCEPTED. You may turn in the assignments by e-mail, by fax or by handing it in to me directly if you are on the Moscow campus. More information about sending in assignments can be found on the Help page.

ANSWERS TO PROBLEMS SETS
Solutions to problem sets which includes problems at the end of the chapter in Ward and Trimble (2004) will be emailed to you after your assignments have been completed and graded by the instructor. The format for these solutions will be PDF or MS Word.  These solutions are quite detailed, and should be invaluable in helping you to learn how to do the problems assigned to you each week.

HANDOUTS
Some materials in this course require handouts because they cover materials not included in Ward and Trimble (2004).  When these handouts are not copyrighted, they will be posted and can be downloaded directly from the web page.  If these handouts are copyrighted, the instructor will email a PDF file containing the handout for your use during this course.
