Learning Objectives

  1. Examine the cause and effects of the release of an industrial cyanide/heavy metals impoundment into a major European river system.
  2. Examine the heavy metals release from a tailings dam failure in Southwestern Spain.
  3. Describe the science and toxicological impacts of ionizing radiation resulting from radionuclides.
  4. Understand the science and issues surrounding mixed waste management in the US.
  5. Examine the technological difficulties associated with subsurface radionuclide plumes of the Hanford Reservation migrating towards the Columbia River.
