The School of Family and Consumer Sciences provides programs in instruction, research, and extension. The School offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. Undergraduate majors include: Child Family and Consumer Studies programs in Child Development/Family Relations, Family Life, and Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Clothing, Textiles, and Design; and Food and Nutrition, including an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics. Enrollment is over 300 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. The School has 16 tenure-track positions located in Moscow, Boise, Idaho, and Spokane, Washington. FCS Cooperative Extension programs are conducted throughout the state. All faculty are involved in research or other scholarly activity. The School supports the University of Idaho Child Development Laboratory, which is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Students who earn the Early Childhood Development and Education degree are eligible for the Idaho Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education Blended Teaching Certificate. Course work for this degree is designed to reflect inclusion of all children.
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences provides quality programs in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, and related areas to all of Idaho. In addition to academic programs, the college also advances knowledge in these areas through research conducted through the Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station. It also provides information transfer and application of new knowledge to the state and the nation through the Idaho Cooperative Extension System. The College was established in 1901. The Margaret Ritchie School of Family and Consumer Sciences became part of the college in 1983.
