Getting the Facts

The goal of "Getting the Facts" is to develop an understanding of the number and variety of home and community waste management concerns.

Youth begin Lesson 4 by mapping their community identifying concerns and solutions. With adult guidance the youth select a reasonable area to map. Working in pairs or small groups they begin searching for concerns and solutions in the area, remembering the concerns and solution learned in Lessons 1 through 3.

After sharing with the whole group the concerns and solutions identified, the group selects 3 to 5 concerns. The youth now gather the facts surrounding these concerns, remembering to use a variety of sources to verify the information. From this list of concerns one waste management concern is selected for further investigation.
