FCS 462/562 Eating Disorders (Blackboard)
462 Syllabus | 562 Syllabus | Resources
Welcome to FCS 462/562. This course provides information on anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and obesity. It is a required course for dietetics students, but anyone may enroll. In the past the course has been taken by majors in psychology, child development/family relations, sports science, and general studies, to name a few. Counselors, psychologists, physician's assistants, social workers, coaches, and EMT's have also found the information to be useful. Some take the course because a friend or family member has an eating disorder, and they want to be able to understand and to help the individual. Others are trying to understand their own relationship with food.
Since the course is at the 400/500 level, students are required to do all reading assignments, reflect on what they learn, and complete written assignments. Essay exams evaluate whether students are learning the concepts. Students are expected to participate in the web-based discussions.
The course content can be found at http://www.blackboard.uidaho.edu/. You will use your UI (Novell) ID and password to access the course. Students from other schools must contact me in via email in order to get a sponsored account. All messages about the course are sent to UI students via UI email, not through hotmail, yahoo, etc. All assignments must be typed in Microsoft Word.

You may also read books not on this list, but you should have them approved by Dr. Branen to make sure they are appropriate for the course. The reference list includes journal articles that are useful for addition information on specific topics.
