Advising Basic advising information Who do I see when? Dr. Ling-Ling Tsao Niccolls Building 302B Time: Weekly appointment available by emails Advising begins on October 19 for spring classes of 2010. There will be a sign up sheet available outside of the office. The following advising services will be available:
Students MUST bring (1) a current program planning sheet (purple color), and (2) a copy of current transcript or degree audit to each advising session.
Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) The Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) program prepares teachers who recognize the capacities, strengths, and needs of all children and their families. To meet this challenge, we have created a blended certification program that is the cutting edge of the profession: early childhood education (Pre-K to 3rd grade) and early childhood special education (birth to 8 years old). Program graduates will be prepare to work in collaboration with families and other professionals from related discipline to provide learning opportunities for children with varying capacities and needs in a variety of settings.

Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Assessment The Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Assessment (ICLA) is required for teacher certification/graduation(for elementary, special ed and early childhood ed majors). Typically students take standards 1 and 2 at the end of EDCI 320. Standard 3 is taken at the end of EDCI 483. Study Guide

Career Info What do early childhood/early childhood special education teachers do? Early childhood/early childhood special educators are highly trained professionals who provide specifically designed instruction and services to all children with and without disabilities. They adapt and develop materials to match the individual needs of each child and use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure that all children reach their learning potential.
Where do early childhood/early childhood special education work? Early childhood/early childhood special educators work in many different environments. A small percentage work in private schools, hospitals and clinics, or in the community agencies. The majority, however, work in the public schools.
Professional Organizations There are a number of national professional organizations related to the field of early childhood/early childhood special education. Division of Early Childhood (DEC) is one of seventeen divisions of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)—the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. DEC is especially for individuals who work with or on behalf of children with special needs, birth through age eight, and their families.
