About us

The purpose of the University of Idaho Meat Science Laboratory is to provide a facility to conduct teaching, research and public service activities of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Science. It is devoted to the development of science and the application of that science and to the solution of the problems in Animal and Meat Science.

The purpose of Vandal Brand Meats (VBM) is to provide a retail sales outlet to sell meat products generated by the activities of the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. The sale of these products compensate for the cost of the livestock, supplies, student labor and maintenance of the physical facilities.


Inspection

Our meat products are inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS). The FSIS ensures the meat products are from healthy livestock, clean and sanitary handling and processing procedures are followed and the products are wholesome.

Vandal Brand Meats is located on the west side of campus just off 6th street and west of the main beef barns.


Business hours

VBM is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the year. We are open on Saturdays from 9:00 to 1:00 for home football games and  9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in December for the holidays. We are closed on University holidays and most federal holidays.
